Three Little Fishies

In case you have no plans for this evening, and actually wanted to sit through a 3 year old Pre School End-of-Year concert, join us to see Sam recite ditties like this:

It's just a taste, you know you want more.

I Believe I Can Fly

So Sam has discovered Superman.  It happened in Florida, when I came across these jammies at Target.  Lucky for him, I'd forgotten to pack any summer jammies.  I spied the cape and thought he'd enjoy it.

Little did I know how these jammies would change his life.  All of our lives, really.

It was love at first sight.

The boy didn't even know what the "S" stood for, but yet his eyes gleamed with an unearthly glow.  He immediately wanted to know who Superman was, what his powers were, and if this cape would, in fact, allow him to fly.

I'll let you see for yourself...

"Whatcha doing?"

"I twying to FWWYYY!"

The rest of the trip, we searched You Tube for clips from the original movie, music from John William's amazing theme song, and racked our brains to remember the plot for the hilariously cheesy Superman II movie.

He's obsessed.  And I love it.  I love how committed he is to becoming Superman, so much so that he wipes out after jumping up high to fly.

There is little left in my adult life that I still feel this way about, but I think the ability is still there.  Hopefully enough of a seed so that I can join him in that magical place, Pretend.  To be whoever we want to be, to fight evil with our special powers, to play.

And when Charlotte is older, she can come too.  Maybe she can be She-Ra.

"Home, Home on the Range"

I don't why this moment struck me as funny, but it did.

Yesterday morning Sam had been blatantly disobedient about a minor thing, so I placed him in a time out at the top of the stairs.

His beloved harmonica was within reach, I guess, because the next thing I heard were the strains of labored harmonica music wafting down the stairs after me.

All he needed to complete the picture of a small town incarcerated fellow was a tin can, something nice to clank against the bars, playing his harmonica to pass the long hours.

Evidence

I shot this video yesterday, right after Sam wandered down from his nap, hair all askew, telling me the kitchen smelled like bagels. I'd made Martha Stewart's Best Brownies for Small Group behind his back and he was bummed. All he got out of it was to lick the bowl.

ANYWAYS, he said his little piece again and I wanted to get it on tape. In case anyone cares.

The Kid Has Better Moves Then I Do

Also filmed before the baby came, at Shane's deli one night while we ate dinner.

I think we have a Jimi Hendrix fan on our hands.

Tums

Shortly before the arrival of Charlotte, I caught this little conversation on camera. Can you tell I was suffering from a lot of heartburn? Out of the mouths of babes...

Tums

Can you tell that I've had a lot of heartburn throughout this pregnancy? I have it now, as a matter of fact. Poor Sam has probably heard me say, "My stomach hurts Buddy, Momma needs a Tums," 12 times a day.

So it didn't really surprise me when he told us that HE needed a Tums, it was coming eventually I suppose.

Days left until Baby #2, the doctor thinks I'll go next week sometime, "or sooner." Thanks. That's helpful.

A Hobby Turned Obsession

So we visited Best Buy over Christmas break, along with 3 million other people. I'd forgotten about the music room in the back right hand corner of our neighborhood store, it ended up being a pinnacle experience for my 2 and 1/2 year old. Filled with drums, cymbals, guitars and keyboards, he spent 45 minutes glued to a stool, playing one electronic kit after another.

45 minutes later, we had to literally PRY him away, kicking and screaming, with promises that we'll "come back to play the booms, buddy!"

"Whatcha doing, Sam?"

I was busy preparing for a small dinner we were having last night when I heard a funny noise coming from the dining room.
What a funny little fellow.

Houston, we have a problem

Well, it looks like the hoarding gene I received from my grandfather has carried on down through another generation.  Sam's ball obsession has spiraled out of control.  In this video taken right before Christmas, he assembled almost every ball he had into one pile, then proceeded to move that pile all over the house.

I was mystified and amused at my offspring, what a funny little guy.

Sam's First Present Christmas Morning

I'm posting this for Kath & Co. who gave Sam another of his favorite gifts this year...his first set of blocks.  They are already much beloved and I can hear his shrieks of frustration from all over the house as his creations topple down accidentally.

It picks up around the 34 second mark when he begins drooling in excitement and then eventually turns to me and says "WOOOOW!!!!"

Best. Present. Ever.

Sam received one gift this year from my parents, grandparents and his aunt and uncle, and oh what a gift it is.  He took a four hour nap on Saturday after burning off all his toddler energy in this....who wants to come over for a playdate!  Bring your People Magazines and I'll make lowfat egg nog lattes for us all.

Sam attempts to dribble

I love his throaty, wild chuckle as he tries to bounce the ball.  What fun these sweet days are!
